Capitol Hill Day

Overview

In the morning of Capitol Hill Day, you will receive briefings from congressional staff on the legislative process followed by an elected member briefing. Transportation to the hill is provided, and a tour of the Capitol is part of the itinerary.

To schedule a meeting with your Representative and/or Senator, look up your members’ website and contact the office scheduler. Inform the member’s staff that you are “both a Reservist and a constituent.” Tell the member’s staff you are going to be on Capitol Hill as part of RCNSC, and would like to make a 10-15 minute courtesy call on the member or their military legislative assistant, after 2 p.m.

Following the morning congressional panel and elected members briefing each seminar goes to one of the many Capitol Hill lunch establishments. Following lunch is the Capitol Hill tour and gallery visits. In the afternoon some students meet with their elected officials while the remaining seminar students tour the Capitol, Supreme Court, and/or the Library of Congress. At the end of the day, the entire class may link up for a final group presentation. Most seminars eat dinner together at a local establishment. Group transportation is not provided at the end of the day back to the hotel.

**It is recommended that you wear comfortable shoes since you will walk approximately 4 miles.
